What is the Best Vitamin Brands?

There are so many opinions about the best vitamin brand that we decided to group a little of the best information we could find into this post. Everyone claims to have the best vitamin brand and the highest quality products, but when it comes to all natural products this claim is hard to verify.

Any vitamin brand that provide all natural ingredients within their formulation must be considered and reviewed. It is best to stay away from synthetic vitamins just because you cannot ensure they are going to be accepted by your body. There is a post from Yahoo Answers that I feel is very informative.

What Vitamin Brands are Best?

Best Answer – Chosen by Asker

Truth be told, any answer given here will just be personal opinion (I can give you my opinion if you’d like). There are many higher quality companies out there that are readily available and well priced… just make sure the company has a good rating with either the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or USP (U.S. Pharmacopoeia), as those are the main quality assurance organizations (USP is for the U.S., GMP is for the U.S. and worldwide).

Most vitamins aren’t available as organic… that’s only the herbs and plants that are grown, plus the fact that certified organic jacks the price way up, too. However, when you find a good high-quality company, their products will likely be as close to organic as possible if they aren’t specifically certified organic.

Store brands aren’t always good, but that depends on the quality they get. You can ask the store clerk if they are GMP or USP certified… if they don’t know, don’t buy it. You could try calling the corporate office of the chain and ask about the rating if you really like the products and/or prices, though.

If they don’t dissolve in a glass of water, that doesn’t mean much of anything… there are many pills that specifically should NOT dissolve in water (usually coated tablets and softgels). The thing is, your stomach has more than water in it… your stomach acid is the equivalent of battery acid. Assuming you have enough acid in your stomach, it could eat through most things you can swallow. That whole line about dissolving in water is simply a marketing ploy for a few companies that might aim at uneducated people and/or elderly people who don’t have much stomach acid.
Some of the “quick dissolving” tablets sometimes get stuck in the throat because they dissolve too fast with some saliva and end up absorbing the saliva that normally helps a pill to slide down your throat… that’s why some have a coating that won’t dissolve in water (like for larger tablets).

There are no prescription multivitamins (meaning one that’s only available by prescription), although some doctors may recommend or prescribe a particular brand of OTC vitamins if they have a preference. Sometimes people may need a prescription level of a certain vitamin, which would be a super-mega dose… but those are only used for severe deficiencies because they would easily overdose a healthy person. Whats the best over the counter prenatal vitamins?

I’m in college and won’t be able to go home to my obgyn for another 2 months. I’m pregnant and want to get prenatal vitamins at a store until I get advised by my obgyn. What’s the best type or brand and what to look for when choosing them? Thanks guys!

Jeff answers:

They’re all the same.
Just a multi vitamin.
I take 2 Flintstone Completes.
The regular prenatals make me sick because of the iron.
OBGYN approved.

By the way, prenatals are more for the mother than the embryo. They’re to keep her nutients up since the baby uses a lot of them. They provide energy.
Folic acid is the most important ingredient for the embryo and most of the things you eat contain folic acid. So it doesn’t have to be the most expensive prenatal.
Some people don’t take them until later in pregnancy because of morning sickness.
They don’t have a huge effect on your baby.

Nancy asks…

What is the best OTC prenatal vitamins?

I have cvs brand and stuart prenatal.

Jeff answers:

I liked Target brand.

George asks…

What prenatal vitamins do you recommend?

I am TTC within a few months and would like to know what brand of prenatal vitamins are best in your opinion?

Jeff answers:

Your ob has to decide for you. Maybe they forgot to assing one to you so call ur ob and ask. However, your OB should be the one to make that determination since they have your health history. If they have told you to get any prenatal vitamin then ask the phamacist, as they are the next best thing to your doctor and sometimes can be even better.
I was taking natelle prenatal vitamin which gave me a very healthy baby

Advice for the young folks?

Any advice is welcome, but in general, I am asking about what kinds of preventative measures I can take to prevent things like Alzheimer’s, high blood pressure, etc. Relationship and career advice is also welcome!

The last question like this was three years old so I’ll write down the advice that still holds (medically) so no one has to repeat it.

Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits
Drink plenty of water
Get plenty of sleep
Take enough calcium (and vitamin D)
Don’t stay up late (once in a while is fine and great fun)
Don’t get drunk (regular moderate drinking may have health benefits though)
Check breasts regularly for lumps (I am a guy, but whatever)
“Don’t sleep around, can lead to cervical cancer, as well as a bad reputation.” not to mention STDs
“Clean your skin properly after wearing makeup and use moisturiser daily.” including sunscreen
“Wear protective gloves when using detergent.”
Keep on learning, stay in school, take a class at a community college
Don’t wear heels often (Running/walking shoes are the best but not very stylish! choose carefully)
Lift weights moderately (moderate weight, moderate repetitions, moderate frequency)
Don’t eat much junk food (about 10% or two meals a week if you eat three meals a day)
Don’t smoke (no drugs)
Don’t have too many stressors (like work or other commitments)
Get plenty of fresh air (Don’t live in a city or anywhere with bad air pollution)
Don’t play rough sports regularly (like football or boxing or even running, marathons=pain)

These last two may be the most important:
Have plenty of sex.
“Don’t have children.”
Now that I think of it, because I expect the list to get longer and longer, if there are any websites with information like this, please post it. I am sure there are ones for things like Alzheimer’s or diabetes.

Jeff answers:

Right, thankyou. Good to know. Im pleased. Why though?

Natural Hormone Therapy?

This is not so much a question but something I wanted to share with other ladies out there. After posting this question I decided to ask my GYN if he knew of any natural hormone replacement supplements that was backed by clinical research, there is so many out there I didn’t know which way to go and because of a history with breast cancer I don’t want to go on HRT.
He sent some information back regarding “DONG QUAI” saying is the only one with clinical proof.
The estrogen found in the root mimics ours and it also helps as a calming agent for depression, mood swings, weight loss due to water retention and so on, worth reading about.
It comes in caps and in root form, the root really smells bad when you boil it to make tea.
Taken orally 6 per day, norn, aft., eve. and it takes 30 days for it to get into your system, the tea is faster but like I said is not very pleasant.
If you have high blood pressure ask you doctor, mine is always on the low side so is not an issue for me.
GNC does not carry this product Vitamin Shoppe does and is not expensive.
Hope this helps some of you
Best of luck to all of us

Jeff answers:

Good stuff – I’m impressed that your GYN took the time to do the research. Dong quai (Angelica sinensis) can be very effective to help regulate estrogen and treat/manage mild to moderate estrogen insufficiency.

Be aware that there are some potential drug interactions and that this herb is contraindicated during pregnancy (strictly CI during first trimester.) In some individuals, it may also cause mild to moderate photosensitivity so don’t forget your sun screen.

Vitex agnus-castus (commonly known as chastetree or chasteberry) is another herb with some good science behind it related to treating PMS/menopause symptoms and fertility issues. Here’s a link to results from a quick search on Cochrane database:

Best way to diet without feeling faint?

I am not overweight but would like to lose a few kilos that I have put on that make me feel uncomfortable with myself. I have never dieted before as I was previously an underweight but high energy person, although I have lost too much weight on occasion in the past due to illness. Because of a back disc injury with back and leg pains I cannot exercise or even walk as much as I should or would like to, so I am now in need of some toning up. Trouble is I tend to get headaches if I am late for meals, as sugar levels drop. I actually have too much sugar in my diet but have not had any real reasons before to reduce it. I have always eaten much more food than others though so perhaps that was balanced out. I have always had low blood pressure and sometimes have dizzy spells, especially if I have not eaten enough. How are you supposed to diet without feeling faint? How do people manage to reduce their food intake without feeling faint and cold? I would seriously like to know how they do this. Would taking vitamin supplements with the reduction in food eliminate those fainting episodes?

Jeff answers:

Eat a half of a banana or a cup of bullion if your feeling faint.

What is the best facial lotion?

I’m looking for a lotion or creme that moisturizes my face a lot. Even though I am a guy who is only in my mid 20′s, the skin in my face is extremely wrinkled and it always gets worse since I sleep very little. All lotions I have used so far did not work and I even applied freshly squeezed lime juice to my face to supply my skin with vitamin c. It’s basically getting me down a lot since it makes me lot a lot older than I really am and I never look refreshed.

Jeff answers:

I’m partial to Neutrogena products. They also have a whole skin line for men. They are light-weight, absorb quickly and work best for me. You can check them out at neutrogena.com. You can also try using an exfoliator once or twice a week to remove dead skin cell and make your face look refreshed. A toner or witch hazel may also help. Neutrogena has them too.

Michael asks…

How do I make my hair grow as thick as possible?

Don’t say you can’t make your hair thicker, it’s all genetics, any of that bulls***. Because I’ve seen people do it, WITHOUT extensions, their own natural hair grow in thicker. So please list all herbs/vitamins/etc. I can take, anything like hair oil or anything I can put on it, or foods I can eat. Best answer goes to who gives me the most information :)

Jeff answers:

Have you tried castor oil? Many women are growing thicker hair when they include it in their regimen. If you go to youtube and type in “castor oil for hair”, you will see great results. It’s really inexpensive too. You can also limit the amount of heat that you apply to your hair. If you start to air dry, you will see a huge difference. I hope this helps. Best Wishes!

I Mean Really I Need Your Opinion, PLEASE? Looking 4 Best Answer?

ok i have irregular periods and they r sometime crazy. i had a period 5/25, and was spotting 4 5 days. then i had a period on 7/21 and that was a normal period. and then on 8/23 i was spotting and did that 4 6 days. and on the 24 my breast started 2 ache, and haven’t stop yet. now when i usually come on my period my breast r tender and sore, but not this time around. now i know u all r not a pregnancy test, but i wanted 2 know what u all think, and if u think i should really go out and buy a test r do u think i would b wasting my money? i have pcos and have been taking my prenatal vitamins, and i was thinking could this make my breast ache, make me feel sick 2 my stomach, and have light headaches? and if u could r would 2 like tell me but how u was feeling when r if you gotten pregnant and had pcos. and i know every female is different, but some females have the same problem and the same out come. and again can prenatal vitamins make u want 2 throw up just about every time u eat eat something?

ok with this being said if u don’t have anything nice 2 say please don’t answer my question, b cuz i’m not going 2 read it. but 2 all who do answer thanks a lot.
trying 2 get pregnant that’s y i’m taking them.

Jeff answers:

You need to take a test. But that being said….prenatal vitamins will make you nauseous and if you are not eating right because of it…that will give you a headache. Sore breasts and feel ill aren’t guarantees of anything…because breast infections, the vitamins, getting ready to start your period will give you all the same symptoms.

You seriously need to take a test. If you’re concerned about the cost…a health clinic or Planned Parenthood will give them to you for free. Just make sure you use first morning urine.

The spotting..since you’ve done it so many times…sounds normal to you. So maybe talk to your Dr. About your symptoms.

What is the best skincare product for acne prone skin?

I’ve tried ProActiv and it just worsen my acne condition :( Right now I’m using the Himalaya Herbals products but my acne is still there. What is THE best skincare product (brand) for acne prone skin? Should I take vitamins? Help me, please. Thanks!

Jeff answers:

Definitely take vitamins!
And drink at least 8 glasses of water a day
watch what you eat too
they say diet doesn’t effect acne but i noticed a big difference when i went on a “healthy diet”
where i cut out junk food and ate a lot healthier
i would suggest going to a dermatologist
but i prefer neutrogena for face wash,
it seems to work the best
but i also tried the clean and clear advantage kit (like poractiv)
and it worked but i had to be very patient
good luck!

Wife is pregnant haven’t seen a doctor…?

My wife is three months pregnant and we havent seen a gyno for a pelvic exam or sonagram we dont have the money to pay 450 for just the pelvic exam (and thats at a womens clinic the only one within 50 miles) we are waiting for the medicaid to go through but its been more than three weeks since we filled out the papers. I realize its a big deal but at the same time women have been having babies without doctors since the dawn of man … and i have her on all the best vitamins (not just prenadal) she doesn’t smoke or drink and she is pretty healthy can we wait for the medicaid?
As for you all that say a prenatal vitamin is all she needs your wrong. even a very good prenatal vitamin only offers 5-8 of the vitamins that a human needs (mainly the difference between a regular multivitamin and prenatal is increased folic acid) and the human body needs more. personally i think its asinine to believe the body doesn’t need all of the regular supplements she doesn’t get from an extremely healthy diet (id like to get a doctors opinion on that…)

Jeff answers:

It’s your call. It sounds like you have already weighed all the risks and have determined what’s best in your situation. She needs prenatal care, and the sooner the better.

While you were on an antibiotic, did you have sex? If so then it is very possible your pregnant because antibiotics render birth control useless. Take a pregnancy test.

Carol asks…

I just found out Im pregnant and……?

Hello everyone, Hope all is having is having an awesome day!

But, ok, I just found Im pregnant. I know I need to make a doctors appt. But the problem is, I just moved to a different state, and I dont have a doctor that I see regulary.

My question is,
I found a pretty helpful website, where former and current patients can rate their experience with that particular doctor.

I found a doctor that seems very nice from his ratings and reviews.

My questions are,

*Do I just call his office and make an appointment, even though Ive never been to him? He doesnt know me….lol

* Do you prefer a male or female obgyn?

*and until I go to my first doctors appointment, Is it safe to take “One A Day Womens Prenatal Vitamins“?

Thanks!
Baby Dust to all TTC!!!
and
Best of Luck to all new and soon to be mommies!

xoxo

Jeff answers:

Congratulations!

The vitamins are fine, I took those until I got a prescription.

You can go to the doctor you found, if you want you can call and ask questions about what is important to you before you decide to go ahead with the appointment. Or, you can just go ahead with the appt and if you are not happy there, you can switch at any time during your pregnancy.

I personally don’t mind if it’s a man or woman, but I do prefer to go to midwives.

Good luck with everything!

Also, What in your opinion is the best canned cat food to feed your cats and what is the best dry (even though dry isn’t that great i have 8 cats and if i feed them 8 cans of premium food a day i would be broke!) thank youu!
ps. my cat has stomach cancer
and i’d like to feed my cats the best food possible so they don’t get conditions like cancer as my oldest has developed most likely from a poor diet of iams and friskies. (before i knew how bad they are)

Jeff answers:

The best dry foods are the grain free ones. Try Innova’s EVO or Wellness Core. There are others like Serengeti and Instinct, but mine like the EVO best. I feed mostly canned, but since I have 5 of my own plus foster cats too, I stretch that out with snacks of the EVO. AvoDern is a good, quality food, by the way. Mine don’t like it though. Has to be Wellness Chicken, or Merrick, or Weruva or they turn up their noses.

Jeff answers:

Hi there!
I use Extrusion as well. It’s a great food and I would totally recommend it. I doesn’t have molasses or sunflower seeds, and it has lots of vitamins. My hamster eats them and he LOVES it. They keep his teeth worn down, they fit nicely in his cheeks, and according to him, they taste good. Beets are fine, and lecithin is another word for soybean, which is full of protein. It’s all good.

Dark Coloured Stool/Poop?

i know this isn’t usually normal, but i’m 12 and female and i have been taking some natures best multi vitamin tablets. They do contain iron – could this be the cause? i have only noticed this once.. should i see a doctor about internal bleeding, or wait to see if it persists.. i dont think it wil (but i am very concerned.) Please help. x

Jeff answers:

Answer is obvious. Too much IRON. All these multi vitamins have 100% recommended daily requirements of a multitude of vitamins and Iron is one of them.

Pharmaceutical medicines/ vitamin type products are well dodgy and should not be taken. A varied diet gives all your vitamins naturally, and not synthetically.

Always go natural.

Out of these, which is the best for baby aquatic turtles to eat and why is it (ingredients and vitamins wise)?

Nature Zone Aquatic turtle soft moist bites.
Fluker’s Aquatic turtle diet.
T-Rex aquatic turtle dry formula.
O.S.I. Aquatic Turtle floating pellets.
Pretty Pets Aquatic turtle food.
Fluker’s Buffet Blend for aquatic turtles.
Zilla fortified aquatic turtle food.
Jurassi-diet aquatic turtle food.
Zoo Med Natural aquatic turtle food – hatchling formula.
Nutrafin Basix Floating turtle gammarus pellets.
Pro Balance Turtle food diet.
Rep-Cal Aquatic turtle food.
Wardley Reptile Premium Aquatic turtle sticks.
Reptile-Life aquatic turtle food.
Reptomin aquatic turtle food.
Reptomin aquatic turtle select-a-food.
HBH turtle bites – shell conditioning formula.
Wardley turtle food flakes.
Nutrafin MAX turtle grammarus pellets.
Hikari Turtle sticks.
There are SO many choices and I don’t know which one to choose, can someone help me figure out which are the best ones (I would like for there to be like 2 or 3 “best choices” so I can rotate a little bit) I am also thinking about buying my turtle Zoo Med’s Can o’ foods, like mini crickets, mini mealies, etc. Right now he’s eating wardley stick food and worms and peices of chicken liver, but I recently read that wardley supposedly isn’t good food or something, so of the ones listed, which are the best ones? Thanks a bunch for your help.
Noone wants to help my poor turtle get the best diet possible? usually people are jumping at the bit to give their opinions on stuff like food choices… This is really a let down… I guess I will just have to look at the pictures and try to find out, because they website doesn’t have the ingredients listed… I was hoping someone with turtles would know what was best….
purfectp… He’s a hatchling, his top shell is only an inch and a hlaf to 2 inches long, he is WAY too small for goldfish and minnows right now, I would have to feed him fry (and I have NEVER seen feeder fry before…)

Jeff answers:

My answer is “none of the above”. The best food is live: earthworms, fishes (not goldfish [too fatty] but guppies are good), and soft-bodied insects. Strips of liver dusted in bonemeal are almost as good. Pellets and such won’t kill the turtles but you can do a lot better for the money.

How can I get my hair to grow long?

Im using the best shampoo and conditioner that really works well with my hair (it use to be really dry), Bed Head- Moisture Maniac. I use vitamins by Nature Made- Hair, Skin, & Nail. I only dye it when it really needs it. And I don’t ever use a hair dryer and barely use my straightener.

Any tips would really help. Seems like im already doing everything though. Thanks!

Jeff answers:

Trimming the ends has nothing to do with it. It just grows healthier that way. Hair grows from your roots, not the tips, how would it know it was cut?
Techniclly, wearing it up in a bun or something when you sleep does help it grow faster (i said TECHNICALLY. That doesnt mean it’ll be much faster, but it’ll be faster). I got that fact off a hairstyling website, not my own idea, so its got some truth to it.
Working out will help since it stimulates blood flow on the scalp, helping it speed up the process.

Shih Tzu Mini & stringy foam continued?

Hello & Thanks Again!
Mini Pie’s 7-years old this November. Her dad is 12-years old this past May. He’s not adjusting well to sleeping off of my bed, but he wakes up having wet my bed a couple of times. Thankfully, I have a plastic barrier so the matress was not damaged. Still, he loses some urine a couple times a week when he gets up from a nap or having slept in my bed. It hurts to put him out of my bed, but it’s hard to accept him peeing my bed even if it’s due to age. He will come to the end of the bed & scratch & moan because he wants up. I have to be firm, and watch him tuck tail & go to sleep on a children’s sleeping bag I got for him. Plenty soft, but he longs for the intimacy we have both enjoyed for years now. In March 2008, Bashful was still alive & having kidney problems. I bought her some incontinence meds from Boo & Mini Pie’s vet. The pills were called PRN Pharmacal “Proin 25″ {60 chewable tablets} which the vet said would help with her incontinence. I never gave her these pills because the expiration date on the bottle was November 2000. When I bought them, they had been expired for 8-years. I heard they really don’t expire or lose their strength, but why would they have an expiration date if that were true? This is part of the reason I have not been to any vets for a long time. Luckily, my dogs have been healthy & Mini Pie has stayed away from rat poison! (ha)
My dogs have never been on heart worm pills, but I started last month because this past year was the worst year I recall having mosquitoes. I got them tested (negative) & just started them on the Iverheart. As suggested, I will call tomorrow & order Revolution from 800-Pet-Meds. Since I just bought 12 doses of Iverheart, I will plan to put my dogs on Revolution from now through December’s dose. In January when there are no fleas or mosquitoes, I’ll put both of them back on Iverheart until spring so I don’t waste $100+ by throwing away 10-doses of Iverheart. Come spring & flea season, I’ll put them back on Revolution & continue buying it from that time forward.*Unless you think this would cause harm.
As far as the flea bites, Revolution should take effect within 24-hours. Still, it will take close to a week for Pet-Meds to get them to me. So, I bought & planned to flea bathe them with Zodiac Fleatrol Protein Conditioning Shampoo contains soothing aloe, lanolin, & oatmeal (kills flea eggs for 28-days) & rinse them in a new product I bought by “Mr. Buddy” called Organic Dip for dogs. Supposedly, it helps them with itching.
A few months ago, I bought some dog meds at Kroger Grocery by “Pet Naturals of Vermont” 1) Oral Health – A daily support formula for dental health & hygiene {5oz/1-tsp per meal} 2) Daily Best – Complete Multi Vitamin/Mineral with digestive enzymes & antioxidants {60 chicken liver flavored chewable tablets} 3) skin & coat support – high potency Omega 3, 6, 9 formula for a healthy shiny coat {60 chicken flavored chewable tablets}. I was also wondering about natural cod liver oil, vitamin C & D. Would anyone recommend some or all of these vitamins (maybe others) for Boo (age 12) and/or Mini (age 7)? Oh, Mini doesn’t seem to have normal periods any more. Until about 1-year ago, she had them every 6/mo. The last one was 9-12-months ago. Should I worry about this?
Both my dogs weigh around 12-lbs, and are at an excellent weight for their build. Boo likes moist canned food, so I recently changed their dry food & began giving them a mixture of moist & dry food. Each day, I mix 1/3 of a can of Pedigree “Country Stew” {cut up into very small pieces} mixed together with about 20-ounces of both IAMS Active Maturity & Purina Little Bites. It takes them around 2-days to eat up all of this food. They both enjoy the moist, but only Boo is picky & starves himself until he realizes I will not give them any more moist food until the bowl is empty of the day food too.
So far, I’ve kept them healthy. I’m not worried, but I want to be sure I am taking care of Boo now that he is getting older. If vitamins would help with him & the physical changes he is bound to experience with old age, I want to keep up on things so he can remain as healthy as possible. Feel free to email me at my college email address: mbrown140@student.cscc.edu

World without sunlight – scandal?

It is ridiculous how we have come to fear the sun in this modern, mad world. Should we be living like moles, underground and come out at dark? Do we panic like mad when we see a little sunlight on our shoulders? Should we start fearing moonlight?

No one questions the large corporate companies who make perfumes and products that contain chemicals that react on our skin when exposed to sunlight. It is not the sunlight itself that is damaging, it is pollution, chemicals in the air combined with sunlight. Along with perfumed products which burn onto our skins if when we want a tan. ‘Tanning’creams in the 1960s/70s, had either UVA or UVB in them and not both, this led to burning of the skin.

Why do we put chemical peels on our face and strip our skins when the sunlight does a natural regeneration affect on the skin?

Otherwise, we need the natural vitamin D that cannot be captured in a bottle, for our bones, skin and health.

- he Austrian man who locked his daughter in the cellar for 24 years had suffered severe health problems and had aged 20 years extra. She NEVER saw sunlight for all that time!

- An experiement was taken in the UK where they found the elderly were more cheerful, healthier when enjoying an outdoor lifestyle.

Redheads and Albinos need to protect themselves because they have little or no melanin.
Balance and moderation exposure to sunlight is the best for us.

Mandy asks…

Can someone help me build a plan of supplements and natural foods to increase immune health?

Fall is coming, and like many teenagers, I’m wary of the swine flu as well as the usual flu risk. I’m in healthy shape, but I’d like to make sure my defenses are top notch. After some research I’ve compiled a list of substances that will supposedly be beneficial. I was just wondering if it is best to get these from natural sources or if its safe to take supplements, in what dosages, and if a combination of these substances is safe. They include -

Vitamin D – Absorbed from sun exposure but is also found in fish and available in supplements.

Resveratrol – Most highly concentrated natural source is grape skins, but some recommend taking a supplement.

Quercetin – Naturally occurring in red grapes, apples, and onions but can be taken as a supplement.

Beta Glucan – Found in oats and grains.

N-Acetyl Cysteine – Available as a supplement, clinically proven to boost resistance to influenza.

Vitamins B6 and E

Last but not least, the most popular, Vitamin C.

Are all of these safe for a teenager to take daily? If they are, what are the safe recommended dosages, and in what forms should they be consumed, be it natural or supplement forms?

Thanks!

Jeff answers:

None of those chemicals will stop you from catching a virus. If you are healthy and in good shape as you say, you can’t do any more – you can’t “boost” your immune system, that is a marketing gimmick only. You will only be wasting your money. Stick to a healthy diet and lifestyle, avoid sick people and crowds, and wash your hands.

You need to further your research.

Sandra asks…

What time of day is it best to take vitamins?

In terms of maximum efficiency/absorption – A prenatal vitamin, B12, Vitamin C and Omega 3 supplement. Are any of these best taken at a certain time of day? I usually have then with food at dinner. I tried switching to taking them in the morning because I heard they are better absorbed that way, but it’s easier to forget. They don’t make me nauseus so that is not a factor. Thanks!

Jeff answers:

I would choose your detox/antioxidant vitamins at night because it is very taxing on the body – as your body is repairing itself
C
Quercetin
Fenugreek
iodine/kelp
milk thistle

the other vitamins you should take in the day for energy boost and building:
E
ginseng
A
calcium
magnesium
biotin

In order to realize the full potential of any store bought vitamin, you need to be able to absorb it properly. Thus turning it into an organic and natural (not synthetic) process. You need to combine the vitamin with something that occurs naturally in nature : for example when you eat an orange you are getting benefit from vit c and bioflavenoids thus helping you utilize vit c effectively.

To actually absorb vitamins I have comprised a list of some common vitamins you need to take with other things to make it a more natural supplement:

Vitamin……………….Needs this to utilize vitamin
======================================…
Vitamin E……………Dietary Fat – such as olive oil
Calcium…………….. Vitamin D
Quercetin……………Bromelain (papaya
Vitamin C……………Bioflavenoids (peel of orange)
Vitamin D……………Dietary Fat – such as olive oil
Vitamin A……………Dietary Fat – such as olive oil

Mary asks…

What are the best vitamins to take to keep from getting sick?

There are so many supliments out there, which vitamins would be best to take during the winter cold and flu season to help me stay healthy?

Jeff answers:

That would be vitamins for the immune system. Which is Zinc and vitamin C.

You can find Vitamin C in:
fresh or frozen fruit
Fresh or frozen Veg
Fruit Juice
Salads

And you can find Zinc in:
Brown Pasta
Hard Cheese
Red meat
Tinned sardines and pilchards.

Hope this helps.

George asks…

When is the best time to take vitamins?

Is it best to take vitamins in the morning (after eating) or in the evening (after eating) for best absorption? Or does it even matter?

Jeff answers:

Most people I know take them in the morning after their meal, including me.

Company doesn’t want to pay unemployment??? Unemployment question….?

Where to even begin explaining this My boyfriend for the past 4 years has been working for Vitamin World in the state of Florida. He loved his job because he’s a very fit person & a gym junky and they sell vitamins (obviously lol) & protein supplements, which he knows a great deal about and he’s got one of those bubbly personalities easy to talk too will talk to anyone and everyone so he was able to really help out costumers in that store he even had several regulars who would only want to speak with him when making purchases…well during the last two years he worked there they had manager/employee issues. They could not keep a steady manager/employees on hand for more than a few months at a time. So for months especially during this last year the store was stuck with only two people working and NO manager. So my boyfriend who was the senior employee pretty much had no choice but to do his best and try to act like as much of a manager as he could . Now during this time the only person from the company he could go to for questions was the general manager (who doesn’t even live in the same city and who would only make an appearance at the store every few months for about 2 hours) so to make a long story short my b/f would call her with questions or w/e and he wanted to apply for the manager position since they desperately needed one. Well the general manager informed him that she felt he ‘wasn’t ready’ to become the manager so she ended up hiring the assistant manager from the verizon wireless store next door. Well this guy didn’t last more than a month so naturally he had to go back to working all those hours with only him and another employee. During that time the general manager & my boyfriends relationship went sour they clearly do not like each other yet he kept doing his job and kept that place running. About 4 months ago they found a manager someone my boyfriend knows so they were friends and everything appeared to be fine they were up to 3 workers at the store so 2 months ago the new manager informed my boyfriend that the general manager wants him gone but does not want to fire him (naturally there would be no reason to fire him because he was a good employee) so what she did was reduced his hours to 5 hours a WEEK…. and to top it all off the general manager who is hardly ever there decided to train 2 new employees and give all his hours to be split between the new people??? And that was a blow to my boyfriend because he actually enjoyed his job. My boyfriend has not worked there in a month so he filed for unemployment and was approved we just got word that the company wants to fight the claim of unemployment & in florida they do it over the telephone so on january 6th there will be a phone interview where a rep from the state and a rep from vitamin world and my boyfriend will review his claim. My question is if a company slices your hours as they did my boyfriends due to no fault of his own doesn’t he qualify for unemployment to replace some of those missing hours until he finds a new job? And if anyone has ever been through a phone interview like the one he has to go through what questions are asked what does he need to be prepared for? We intend on fighting this and no my boyfriend is not some mooch that wants to live for a year on unemployment we desperately need it for survival until he finds a new job which he is constantly searching for i cannot believe how hard it is to find full time work.. And to this day we still don’t even know what to label him as he wasn’t fired and he sure didn’t willingly quit his job and 5 hours a week sure the heck isn’t a job. If anyone has any information about these things please let me know if you know of any websites or reading material about unemployment in florida it would be greatly appreciated or input on what to do…..
so sorry its so long its just a messed up situation one that we are actually still trying to understand…

Jeff answers:

Don’t sweat too much over this. Employers fight claims all the time. As long as there are no documented history of misconduct (by your BF, with witnesses) just file the paperwork and let the government make the determination.

Contrary to popular opinion, Florida UC does cover “partial unemployment through no fault of one’s own”.

Your BF will need to provide some proof, such as reduction of hours (and paycheck stating such), history of long work with no promotion, and so on and so forth. It would help if he can find some proof that he was practically running the store for months.

And don’t worry if initial claim is denied. There’s always the appeal.

Have your BF applied at some OTHER nutritional supplement places? GNC, Whole Foods, even fitness clubs and such?

If there are further questions, this is the number to call: 1-800-204-2418
